I was incredibly fortunate to have met Bob Wagstaff when I was 12 years old. He graciously gave tennis lessons to me and my 3 sisters, impoverished girls, that knew nothing about basic country-club etiquette let alone anything about tennis. His kindness, patience, and constant reinforcement of the basics helped us tremendously. We enjoyed lessons with Bob, and looking back, I fondly remember his focused efforts to build in me a passion for the game and a strong foundation not only as a player but also as a person! Bob had a servant’s heart then, and he still does. Fast forward to 39 years later, My own daughter has been taking lessons with Bob for 8 years. He is one of the most comprehensive tennis coaches, dealing so effectively with every aspect of the game. He continually surprises me with his breadth of knowledge and analytical approach to tennis. With respect to the technical and strategic aspects of the game, he is without equal!
He does a great job simplifying the game, appearing to have it down to a science. Whether strategic or psychological, his coaching on the mental side of tennis has drastically and positively affected my daughter’s mindset. Through repetition, positive reinforcement, and adjustments, Bob has also truly improved her game. In addition, he is very helpful in terms of giving strategic advice for playing against different types of players. Bob is involved in the lessons. He is always energetic and willing to rally balls rather than just feeding the balls from the basket. My daughter over the years had made great gains in rankings and won many more matches because of him. Bob is consistent and dependable. His passion for tennis is contagious, and his students strive to rise up to meet his expectations! During lessons, his students are clearly focused, inspired, and learning.
